matching tattoos

I love these tattoos, and I don’t think its a bad idea to get matching tattoos with friends and partners, but there is always the chance of things not working out. Well i’ve waited to put this post of because of that very reason. The couple that got this tattoo wanted it for their 5 year wedding anniversary, a good amount of time to be together, but unfortunately they are no longer together. I have my husbands name tattooed on me i’m all for getting the people that mean so much to you tattooed on yourself, or  matching ones with out names. I guess why i’m posting this tattoo is because 1. the client didn’t mind me putting it up and 2. because i’m probably going to have to cover her’s up, even though it is a really nice tattoo. It’s hard for her to have it, and I understand. She  mentioned to me shortly after the break up that she wanted to cover it, and I said NO! but only because I don’t think i’ve had to cover one of my own tattoos that I absolutely love. I would hate to have a tattoo that stood for something that  was no longer a part of my life, and make a hard break up harder. So i’m posting this as a memorial to this tattoo that will be gone one day. You can’t have regrets with tattoos, you just have to figure out how to cover them up when you are over them. danielle

Tiger by Matt Greenhalgh

I finished this tattoo for my friend Patrick a while ago, I think it’s been healed for about a year now, i love this tattoo but i wish everyone could see it in person, iv e really enjoyed seeing healed japanese style work come back through the shop. every time i see a client who i haven’t seen in a year or two and they have some large japanese inspired work, it just proves to me why this style is so important.  These kind of tattoos seem to get better with time, which for artists and clients is always going to be important. My concern is always to create powerful tattoos that communicate grace and beauty while standing the test of time. For me the traditional genres of tattooing provide the perfect avenue for that pursuit. Thanks to Patrick and all my clients for giving me the opportunity to work towards that goal.

purgeatl interview with danielle

There are few times in interviews that you are completely happy with the way it turns out. It’s a normal thing. I was taught to have low expectations when it comes to any sort of print on yourself, but this is honestly the first time that I have been blown away by the interview. Cristen Conger did this while getting tattooed herself. Our good friend, and great photographer Tim Song took the photos. He is the first person to photograph me 5 years ago when I first moved here. They are all part of PURGEATL this is their goal with their site -“The stories, images, inspirations, ideas, and obsessions of PURGEATL aim to cut through the mass produced, commercial, and mainstream to reveal the glowing underbelly of the city we know and love. By providing an inside look into Atlanta’s arts, nightlife, culinary endeavors, entertainment, and the city culture we hope to amplify the place we all call home.” Support them check out their site and read the article about Danielle Distefano.

it had to be you

Thomas Edison has the first patent on a phonograph, along with an etching tool that tattoo machines were later based on, and tons of other stuff that makes up my daily routine. Thanks Edison. This phonograph tattoo is for her grandparents, it is such a classic iconic image, which is just too sweet. The last one I tattooed had blood shooting out of it. danielle
